Abstract Forensic odontology is a specialized branch of forensic science focused on the application of dental knowledge to the investigation and resolution of legal cases. This field plays a crucial role in identifying human remains in cases where traditional identification methods, such as fingerprint analysis, may not be applicable due to advanced decomposition, disfigurement, or disaster scenarios. Forensic odontology employs techniques including dental record comparison, radiographic analysis, and the study of bite marks to assist in human identification, age estimation, and assessing trauma to the oral region. In recent years, advances in technology, such as 3D imaging and DNA analysis from dental pulp, have enhanced the accuracy and reliability of forensic odontology. This review explores key methods, recent advancements, challenges, and ethical considerations within forensic odontology, emphasizing its vital role in both criminal investigations and mass disaster response. The integration of interdisciplinary approaches and technological innovations continues to shape the future of forensic odontology, improving its precision and utility in legal contexts.
